Princess Margaret Hospital Club ADO Refurbishment

The new 'Club ADO' gives hospitalised teenagers a dedicated space of their own, including exclusive access to a games room, cafe, arts area, media studio and lounge. 

A true team effort, Club ADO's design was completed by the ABN Group Design Team, Webb & Brown-Neaves undertook the administration and approval process and PACT Construction carried out the on site construction.

From a construction cost point of view, the project was worth well in excess of $150,000.  Thanks to the generous contributions from ABN Group's contractors and suppliers, Club ADO's refurbishment was delivered for less than $50,000.   

The area was a light weight structure, largely timber and steel framed, to allow the construction team to apply an additional load to an existing structure, as well as adding large, heavy in-situ elements into position.  FC sheeting and Colorbond® cladding systems with framed glazing elements were used for the walls.  Mod wood flooring was applied to the outside decking area, with attractive and quality bamboo flooring inside. 

While the construction methods were reasonably simple, the team was faced with the challenge of the project location – 7 storeys in the air with restricted access, and directly above a live operating theatre.  The team needed to incorporate cranage, lifting and storing of materials, as well as ensuring the safety of the team while working with harnesses and static lines.

Even faced with this challenge, the teams at PACT Construction and Webb & Brown-Neaves produced a spectacular result, completing the project ahead of schedule in just 13 weeks.

The end result is a magnificent space which will provide hours of enjoyment to adolescents in Princess Margaret Hospital.
