| The Homebuyers Centre renovation brief was to completely transform the existing 2-storey office complex in Balcatta into a modern office environment. All works, both internal and external, were to be constructed in a 4 staged construction process to enable the HBC operations to continue trading during the refurbishment. Specific requests were made for the new building. This included an internal 2-stop lift within the main lobby/foyer area to be constructed. Special use of joinery and partitioning materials were employed throughout the 1400m2, 2 level office to create a contemporary look. The construction of the 2-stop lift involved the construction of the lift shaft in precast concrete panels. The existing 2 storey lobby roof had to be removed and modified to enable the panels to be craned through the roof opening.
Once erected, the main roof steel was braced back against the precast concrete lift shaft structure and roofing reinstalled. 2006 Building Designer's Association of WA Building Design Awards Winner Category 11a: Commercial Buildings 2006 WA Building and Design Awards
