Premier Mark McGowan and Education, Training Minister Sue Ellery and John Burke, the Principal at Bob Hawke College held the official sod turning at Bob Hawke College Stage 2. Dale Alcock (Managing Director of the ABN Group and PACT General Manager, Jason Thomson also joined the Project team for the event.
Whadjuk Noongar elder Neville Collard was welcomed and marked the commencement of works on Stage 2 of the college by acknowledging the ancestors and paying respect to the land of country.

The $57.6 million stage two facilities will bolster the college further in harnessing student creativity and talent – while supporting about 1,650 jobs during construction.
Facilities in stage two will provide spaces for students to rehearse and showcase their creative talents, including a performing arts centre, dance and visual arts studios, music rooms and two state-of-the-art media studios.
Additional general classrooms will double the college’s current capacity and create space for 2,000 students.
Located on the northern end of the college’s Subiaco site, the build will also include landscaped areas and a roof terrace for students to enjoy at break times.
The second stage of works will add to the already highly acclaimed college facilities which opened at the start of 2020.
Hassell Studio was appointed to consult on the design for this project, with construction managed by Western Australian builder PACT Construction.
As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:
“It wasn’t that long ago that I opened the first stage of the impressive Bob Hawke College which has a wonderful school community and spirit, and where students are enjoying a quality education.
“I am pleased the second phase of works is now underway and I can’t wait to see the state-of-the-art facilities take shape as construction progresses over the coming months.
“The build is set to support about 1,650 jobs during construction, before it opens for students for the 2023 school year.”
As stated by Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery:
“Students at Bob Hawke College will soon have access to architecturally-designed arts facilities including a performing arts centre, dance and visual arts studios, and music and media rooms.
“The school has already become a landmark in the Subiaco community and it’s fantastic to see the second stage of the innovative school get underway.”
The project will be completed and ready for the 2023 school year.
