PROJECT SNAPSHOT

Competing with a host of pre-qualified contractors in an open tender process, PACT’s excellent track record completing several high-profile Department of Education projects in recent years ultimately gave us the edge to win the contract to deliver Willetton Senior High School’s Expansion and Refurbishments. It was designed by Hassell Studio.

Originally constructed in the 1970s, Willetton SHS needed modern refurbishments to bring it into the 21st century. Stage 2 of the project required us to deliver a new, fully integrated two-storey building and associated single-storey facilities, complemented by extensive landscaping works and all new car parking.

OVERCOMING CHALLENGES

PACT was required to navigate difficult working conditions in order to bring the project to life.

  • The major challenge confronting the team was the management of the new facility’s construction, which took place in the central area of a live school environment. To successfully overcome these testing conditions, we undertook careful real-time planning and communication with the school’s stakeholders to ensure minimal disruption to daily activities. We sequenced construction activities to mitigate safety risks, all while allowing students and staff to fully enjoy and use existing facilities on a daily basis.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Coloured materials in stair voids: Green and yellow bricks, skylights and metal gates to stairwells.
  • Artist seating: Custom seating designs created from insitu concrete, composite timber cladding and powder coated metal cube seating.

FEATURES OF DEVELOPMENT

Willetton Senior High School utilised structural steel framing and incorporated extensive landscaped areas.

The covered assembly area is double storey height with movable benches.

The façade of this development features coloured face bricks to façade and stairwells, pre-finished CFC cladding, aluminium shading fins and louvres and coloured glass.
