PROJECT SNAPSHOT
Designed by Gresley Abas, the Belmont City College Trade Training Centre incorporates a full commercial teaching kitchen environment for 16 students, along with associated storage, amenities (including a freezer and cool room), seminar room and restaurant for 80 patrons. We proudly won the project via a competitive tender process.
OVERCOMING CHALLENGES
- The project was delivered in just 32 weeks, 7 weeks ahead of schedule.
- Our team carefully carried out all works inside a live school environment. This involved isolation of the construction site and interface management with the school, staff, students and parents.
HIGHLIGHTS
- The project’s key feature is the ‘floating ceiling’. With full-height solid load bearing walls, the centre appears to flow from inside to outside through glass windows. This not only serves the needs of the large commercial kitchen, but also captures the natural light from the north.
FEATURES OF DEVELOPMENT
The design of this project utilised a structural steel frame on a concrete ground slab, with the external walls being a combination of glazed aluminium window sections and CFC cladding.
