PROJECT SNAPSHOT

PACT’s successful track record in the education sector helped our team secure this significant project following a competitive tender process.

Key tasks included the internal demolition and refurbishment of 11 classrooms to accommodate various uses including home economics, textiles, and audio / visual education.

The home economics teaching area was extended and a new science teaching area and resources / staff room was constructed for the science teachers. It was designed by Matthews & Scavalli Architects.

OVERCOMING CHALLENGES

  • Client-directed variations involving almost 200 instructions for additional work saw the project value increase by over $700,000. Despite the significantly increased scope, the works were completed within the original contract timeframes.
  • Keeping the school operational during construction posed major ongoing challenges. Through strong coordination between our team and school staff and management, we were able to ensure the safety of pupils, staff and the public.
  • Asbestos materials were discovered when clearing the quadrangle and required removal. Further materials were discovered and safely removed from old classrooms and science labs during the refurbishment works.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The challenging design of a curved walkway connecting the new canteen to the adjacent areas is now a signature feature of the site.

FEATURES OF DEVELOPMENT

This project involved a significant extension and fit-out of the existing canteen building. The school’s central quadrangle was refurbished with contemporary brick paving and new grassed areas. Approximately 500m2 of covered walkways were also prepared, demolished and replaced throughout the school.
