PROJECT SNAPSHOT

PACT was responsible for constructing a new two-level building on the block adjacent to the company’s existing manufacturing facility. We took on a design and construct role in partnership with design firm Meyer Shircore and Associates. The innovative, environmentally sensitive design comprises a 1,118m² warehouse / factory facility, with office and showroom facilities incorporated into the front building. It was developed by ABN Group and designed by Meyer Shircore Architects.

OVERCOMING CHALLENGES

  • Greywater recycling system: Due to the wet cutting of the stone, all water had to be recycled. We were required to liaise with exterior consultants to identify the right plant, equipment and technology that would capture the used water, pass it through a double filtration system and then return the water into the original cutting system.
  • Supplying, installing and commissioning the concrete cutting equipment: We undertook a high level of briefing between the supplier of the equipment and the design team and ourselves to determine that the pad footing location, slab construction and horizontal tolerances in the area were all able to accommodate the installation of the equipment when it arrived from Germany.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Through solid methodical planning and coordination, we were delighted to handover the completed project on time and on budget.

FEATURES OF DEVELOPMENT

This development comprised of a heavy-duty slab-on-ground, structural steel portal frame, tilt concrete panels and steel framed, metal corrugated wall spandrels.

Polycarbonate roof sheeting provides an abundance of natural light to the factory floor, complemented by energy-efficient LED high bay lighting. Roof vents offer extensive natural ventilation, while a large evaporative air-conditioning system is on standby to cool the factory floor.
