Address: 120 High Street Mall, Atwell
Project Value: $14.8 million
Construction Time: 60 weeks
Architect: Meyer Shircore & Associates Architects
PACT Construction’s impressive track record and previous experience in working on tight access sites saw the company, again, working with Meyer Shircore & Associates to provide a much-needed boost to Fremantle’s High Street Mall precinct.
Located between existing heritage-listed buildings on the corner of Cantonment and Market Streets, with pedestrian access via High Street, the new four-level development comprises of 23 high quality retail and office tenancies complete with basement, lift and amenities.
The project saw PACT combine various materials, from a specialist façade treatment with curtain wall glazing to rendered block work, concrete columns, post tensioning floor slabs and precast concrete patterned wall panels on the external faces. Now finished, the Atwell Arcade re-development boasts several eye-catching design features, including a balcony/deck on the Cantonment Street side. Internally, fully air-conditioned mixed-use tenancies have been incorporated with the heritage features to complement the existing site’s surroundings.
The Atwell Arcade development required PACT to draw on its vast experience completing complex construction projects to ensure seamless coordination and delivery. There were many challenges, with the works surrounded on all sides by heritage-listed properties. This meant a high degree of care was required to ensure all trades, subcontractors and material deliveries operated with caution at all times. Further testing PACT’s project management expertise was the extremely confined worksite containing existing occupied tenancies. To overcome this obstacle, PACT stayed in constant communication with all parties involved to keep disruption to an absolute minimum while maintaining a high level of productivity.
As on previous projects, PACT’s ‘whole-of-project’ approach ultimately ensured yet another successful project delivery in a challenging environment. PACT is proud to be the builder for such a high caliber project that now boost retail in the historic Fremantle area, while visually complementing the conserved architecture of the High Street Mall.
