200km east of Perth, Stage 1 of the Recreation Centre has been completed for the shire of Kellerberrin. The $4.8 million stage 1 contract was for the 1,755m2 main building overlooking the existing trots track and football field; and incorporated  a Judges’ box on level 2 of “The Tower” The ground floor if 1,675m2 and consists of a bar/club room with outdoor Terrace and Crech with outdoor Play Area, Kitchen & Family Dining, Tote, Offices with Board and Meeting Rooms, a Gymnasium and a Sports’ Equipment Storage.

Predominate  construction feature included a structural steel frame with concrete ground slab, infill brick work, a flat roof hidden behind parapet walls, and high quality finishes throughout. The project has been constructed in accordance with BCA’s Section J requirements and, now it has been completed, gives the shire a first class facility in the heart of WA’s wheatbelt.

Stage 2 is due for tender in 2012 and included a squash court with viewing are, an indoor sports hall, further change rooms, two outdoor multi-sport hard courts, and enough car parking for over 120 patrons. Lawn bowls and a hockey field cum tennis courts will complete the complex which has been in the pipeline for the shire and the people of Kellerberrin for almost 25 years.
